Using Okta with People Insight

Overview

People Insight supports Single Sign-On (SSO) through enterprise identity providers, including Okta. This enables organisations to manage access via their existing identity and access management systems, rather than maintaining separate platform credentials.

Using Okta with People Insight helps strengthen security, simplify access, and align user management with internal IT policies and controls.

What SSO with Okta enables

When Okta is configured as the identity provider:

  • Users authenticate using their existing corporate Okta credentials

  • Access is governed by the organisation’s Okta policies, including MFA where enabled

  • No separate People Insight password is required

From a user perspective, access is straightforward: sign in to Okta, select People Insight, and access is granted. From an IT perspective, identity, authentication and access control remain fully centralised.

Common client use cases

Reduce login friction

Users already authenticated via Okta can access surveys and dashboards without additional login steps, improving participation and usability.

Maintain strong security standards

Authentication is handled entirely by Okta, allowing organisations to enforce:

  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

  • Password policies

  • Conditional access rules

People Insight operates within these controls and does not bypass or weaken them.

Centralise access management

User access can be aligned with Okta lifecycle events, such as joiners, movers and leavers. This reduces manual administration and lowers access risk.

Support distributed workforces

SSO provides a consistent and reliable login experience across locations and devices, which is particularly valuable for large or decentralised organisations.

How Okta fits into People Insight’s security model

Authentication via Okta

User authentication is performed by Okta. People Insight does not manage or store user credentials.

Role-based access control

Once authenticated, access to surveys, dashboards and administrative features is governed within the platform using role-based access control (RBAC).

End-to-end security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. SSO complements People Insight’s broader security controls rather than replacing them.

Preservation of anonymity

Survey anonymity and reporting thresholds operate independently of authentication. Using Okta does not affect respondent anonymity.

Supported identity providers

People Insight supports SSO with:

  • Okta

  • Microsoft Azure Active Directory / Entra ID

  • Google Workspace

Organisations can select the provider that best aligns with their existing environment.

What Okta does not do

Okta’s role is limited to authentication. It does not:

  • Control survey content, results or reporting

  • Have visibility of survey responses

  • Influence anonymisation rules

  • Store People Insight data

When Okta SSO is a good fit

Okta is particularly suitable for organisations that:

  • Already use Okta as their primary identity provider

  • Require consistent MFA enforcement

  • Want to reduce password-related support overhead

  • Have strict security or compliance requirements

For smaller or less centralised environments, Microsoft or Google SSO may be equally appropriate.

Summary

Using Okta with People Insight enables organisations to:

  • Simplify user access

  • Maintain enterprise-grade security controls

  • Centralise identity and access management

  • Improve adoption without compromising anonymity or compliance

SSO via Okta is a standard, well-established integration within People Insight’s security and access model.
